CrossWhirred is a crossword racing site. This page explains what we collect when you use it, why, and how to get it deleted. We don't sell your data, show ads, or use third-party analytics or tracking.

What we collect

  • Account details: your email address and the display name you choose. If you sign in with Google, we receive your Google email and name. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and are never visible to us.
  • Game activity: your matches (opponent, mode, result, how much of the grid you filled), your ratings and win/loss stats, and puzzles you play.
  • Social features: friends, invite links and challenges you send or receive.
  • Puzzles you publish: grids, clues and titles you share from the constructor.
  • Technical data: like any website, our servers receive your IP address and browser details with each request. We use these to keep the service running and to rate-limit abuse, not to profile you.

How it's used

  • To run your account and sign you in.
  • To match you with opponents, run races, keep ratings and show your match history.
  • To show your display name to opponents, friends and anyone who opens a puzzle you published.
  • To send account emails, such as sign-up confirmation and password resets. We don't send marketing email.

Who else handles it

We use a few services to host and run CrossWhirred:

  • Supabase: database and sign-in.
  • Vercel: hosts the website.
  • Railway: hosts the game servers.
  • Resend: sends account emails.
  • Cloudflare: DNS and our support email.
  • Google: only if you choose to sign in with Google.

Cookies

We only use the cookies needed to keep you signed in. There are no advertising or analytics cookies.

How long we keep it

  • Your account and game history are kept until you delete your account.
  • The full board from a match is kept for 48 hours for review; after that only the result is kept.
  • Puzzles shared without an account are kept temporarily and expire.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time from your Account page. This permanently removes your account, ratings, stats, friends and match history (match records are removed for your opponents too). Puzzles you published stay available but are no longer linked to you. You can also email support@crosswhirred.comand we'll delete it for you.

Children

CrossWhirred isn't intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll remove it.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For significant changes we'll let you know on the site.
